42 of the Funniest Burns from the Week of June 2, 2025

Natasha Lyonne summoned the ghost of legendary filmmaker David Lynch while defending her controversial new A.I. film studio this week. In an interview with Vulture, the Russian Doll star recalled a conversation she claims took place with her neighbor, the Mulholland Drive auteur, before his death in January, hinting that he encouraged her to embrace computer-generated filmmaking.
“‘Natasha, this is a pencil,’” Lyonne remembered of their chat, in which the director told her that everyone would soon jump on the A.I. bandwagon. “It’s how you use the pencil, you see?”
Though Lynch had, in fact, publicly praised the potential of A.I. prior to his death, some fans still weren’t sold on Lyonne’s story, taking to Twitter to share their own unverified encounters with the bygone artist. “Before he died, David Lynch told me I’m the prettiest girl in the world and that he wanted to make a movie about my extremely normal and good life,” joked one fan, while another touted his sway over the judicial system. “I spoke to David Lynch shortly before he died,” they wrote. “He gave me permission to commit many crimes.”
We, too, gleaned an unsubstantiated bit of wisdom from Lynch prior to his passing: He said this week’s Twitter burns were as scathing as they were funny. The best of them lampooned Beyoncé’s fictional high school, your dumbest uncle’s impact on federal funding and Sabrina Carpenter’s doppelganger.
